Interested in going beyond casual curiousity and diving deep into the world of protocols?
The Protocol Kit is designed to help you or your organization do exactly that. It is a fat 3-ring binder with over 500 pages of inserts (mailed out in the form of 6 modules of around 80 pages over the next 8 months) designed to support systematic study, research, policy-making, scene-making, and entrepreneurship efforts. The Kit will include printed versions of all the research output of the inaugural Summer of Protocols program, plus supplementary materials and tools designed specifically to support any kind of serious interest.

Interested in going beyond casual curiousity and diving deep into the world of protocols? The Protocol Kit is designed to help you or your organization do exactly that. It is a fat 3-ring binder with over 500 pages of inserts (which will be mailed out in the form of 6 modules of around 80 pages over the next 8 months) designed to support systematic study, research, policy-making, scene-making, and entrepreneurship efforts. The Kit will include printed versions of all the research output of the inaugural Summer of Protocols program, plus supplementary materials and tools designed specifically to support any kind of serious interest. And of course, the point of making this a 3-ring binder is for you to add your own selections and notes.
For a partial preview of what the Kit will contain, check out the Summer of Protocols Retrospectus. You’ll get a copy of everything described there, and more.
While the Kit is not for sale, we will have 512 available to give away to selected individuals and organizations. If you’re interested, simply fill out this form explaining the nature of your interest, and how you hope to participate in the brewing protocol revolution.
We will be looking to distribute the kits widely and globally to a diverse set of recepients. We hope to include students, academics, independent researchers, meetup and study-group organizers, startup founders, policymakers, artists and inventors in what we hope will turn into an informal “Fellowship of the Kit.” We hope this Kit can do for protocols what Arduinos and 3d printers did for the Maker movement, or what the Whole Earth Catalog did for the creation of modern tech culture.
Due to the limited availability, we will not be able to send a kit to every interested individual or organization, but if you don’t manage to snag one, you can simply make your own! ALL the material in the kit will also be available freely on this website, and you can simply print out your own copies and make your own binder. The Fellowship of the Kit is open for anyone to join!
So check out the Retrospectus, and fill out the form if you’d like to try and snag one of the kits, and share this page with others who you think might looking for a way to dive into the world of protocols.
And of course, if your interest is more casual, we invite you to simply browse all the material on this site as it is released, and dip into whatever sparks your interest and curiosity!
